ARF takes great care to match dogs and cats with just the right family so they can remain in their new homes for life. Sometimes, despite best efforts and intentions, the match isn't ideal or life circumstances prevent the pet staying in the home. ARF is here to support you through the difficult decision to return your pet to ARF when it just doesn't work out.
Returns are available by appointment only. Adopters are given the option to return their adopted pet for a full refund up to 30 days from the date of adoption. If appropriate, ARF would love the opportunity to help you find a better match and apply the refunded fee toward a different pet's adoption.
After three months, pets must be re-evaluated by ARF's behavior team to ensure they meet adoption criteria. If the pet is over 7 years old, a medical evaluation will also be necessary. A $100 surrender fee is applied towards the care of the pet while at ARF.
